This event is an initiative of the Lost World Valley Community, the Garden Hill at lost World Gallery and Museum and the Beaudesert and District Community Arts Projects

| DURATION OF WORKSHOP 4 days COST – $280 + materials and equipment |
| STATUS OF STUDENT – advanced students, maximum of 8. Adrian has designed this workshop to cater for students who have achieved a level of experience, competence and technical skill in blacksmithing, and who are confident enough in this discipline to design and plan an individual project well before the event. A plan or outline will be required when completing the application form, and will be forwarded to Adrian. He will then advise on feasibility and preparation, before the event. These projects will then be worked through under the tutelage of Adrian, using mutual planning, consultation and demonstration. | DAY 1, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 21 |
| DAY 1, SESSION 1Set up forges and anvil individual work areas , steel stocks and tools. Safety talk and brief talk around about individual projects.Skills Acquisition Exercise (SAE) I expect to gain some knowledge of the skill level of members in this session. |
| DAY 1, SESSION 2Planning of individual project component making and sequences. Availability of materials and special tooling etc |
| DAY2, THURSDAY. SEPTEMBER 22 |
| DAY 2, SESSION 1SAE and toolmaking if required. At this stage I expect there to be a lot of needs based ideas coming from the group |
| DAY 2, SESSION2Individual project activity with cooperation between students: striking etc. encouraged |
| DAY 3, FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 23 |
| DAY 3, SESSION 1SAE. toolmaking and decorative techniques. Discussion of group project if time permits. This could be an artefact appropriate to the occasion to be retained at Garden Hill as a memento of the inaugural workshop. |
| DAY 3, SESSION 2Individual projects. I expect some students to be finishing theirs. They should be given the option of starting a new one or working with others. If a group project is planned they could begin working on components. |
| DAY 4, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 24 |
| DAY 4, SESSION 1SAE. A demonstration charcoal burn. Short starting session and occasional maintenance through morning. If wood supply and permit available. |
| DAY 4, SESSION 2Finish all projects. Review session. Better ways to do etc |
| DESCRIPTION OF PRODUCT TO BE COMPLETED BY STUDENTThe student should make a number of samples and useful items plus the project elected. If a group project is attempted it will contain his or her contribution. |
| LIST OF TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT SUPPLIED FREE BY TUTOR FOR THE WORKSHOPI will provide a range of hand and anvil tools. Formers and production jigs will be available for use.For economy and safety reasons I prefer hand cranked or low voltage forges. I can provide a limited number of forges and anvils by direct arrangement. My transport capacity is limited and I would prefer to use it for fuel, materials and toolsI do sell new anvils and can make up forges for purchase but will require notice well before. |

| LIST OF MATERIALS SUPPLIED FREE BY THE TUTOR FOR THE WORKSHOPA range of mild steel bars, rods and plates. Some recyclable scrap of special steels.Forge fuels and oil etc. |
| LIST OF MATERIALS TO BE SUPPLIED BY STUDENTS (if possible/applicable please list sources and approximate costs)Special steels or sections that may be required for the project in hand. I could consult with students prior to the workshop.NB – A material and fuel fee for students will apply to cover the cost of charcoal and some steel, which Adrian will supply. The final figure for this fee will be dictated by the complexity and scale of the individual project. An indication of the amount can be provided by Adrian upon submission of the project |
