This event is an initiative of the Lost World Valley Community, the Garden Hill at lost World Gallery and Museum and the Beaudesert and District Community Arts Projects

Please read carefully and complete details at end of booking sheet.

 

DURATION OF WORKSHOP – 4 days                                     COST – $280 + materials and equipment
STATUS OF STUDENT Some experience recommended but not essential
DAILY SCHEDULE OF OUTCOMES
DAY 1, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 21
DAY 1, SESSION 1 – Introduction, history of horning, types of horn and ways of working horn. Equipment used and safety procedures. Sanding, buffing and polishing horn.

Choose horns for horn pate knife or spoon, mark and cut.

DAY 1, SESSION 2 – Different method of heating horn.

Heat and flatten horn, moulding horn to make spoon. Sanding, buffing and polishing.

Finish horn knife or spoon, and introduce the use of pewter for highlighting.

DAY2, THURSDAY. SEPTEMBER 22
DAY 2, SESSION 1 – Making pewter and horn ware. Rice spoon, cheese knife, salad servers.

Mark and cut pewter, press spoon, work on spoon shape.

DAY 2, SESSION2 – Introduction to soldering, attaching handles, drilling and glue overnight.
DAY 3, FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 23
DAY 3, SESSION 1 – Finish off spoon or knife, final polish.
DAY 3, SESSION 2 – Commence horn and pewter mustard pot.
DAY 4, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 24
DAY 4, SESSION 1- Finish mustard pot. Commence jewellery, pendants, rings, earrings or bracelets.

 

DAY 4, SESSION 2 – Complete all jewellery.

 

DESCRIPTION OF PRODUCT TO BE COMPLETED BY STUDENT

Horn pate knife or spoon, horn and pewter rice spoon and mustard pot. Horn and pewter jewellery.

Bangles, pendants, earings and rings.

LIST OF TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT SUPPLIED FREE BY TUTOR FOR THE WORKSHOP

All tools and equipment supplied free to the students. Linisher, 3 grinders, band saw (for use by the

tutor only), press, drill, gas burner, soldering torch, compressor, deep fry and sundry other loose tools.

LIST OF TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT TO BE SUPPLIED BY STUDENTS (if possible/applicable please list sources and approximate costs)

No tools needed by the student.

LIST OF MATERIALS SUPPLIED FREE BY THE TUTOR FOR THE WORKSHOP

Students to purchase horn and pewter, for cost of up to $60.

LIST OF MATERIALS TO BE SUPPLIED BY STUDENTS (if possible/applicable please list sources and approximate costs)

Participants should bring old clothes or overalls, earmuffs, goggles and gloves. Horn and pewter will be available for purchase.
